As stated on the front page of our website ‘We believe in supporting the communities we play disc golf in.’ Every tournament has an official non-profit it supports and we’ve been donating since 2016. With the addition of a dedicated fundraiser tournament we have been breaking our records the last couple years and set a new record of $2007.00 donated funds in 2024. Even though tournament attendance has decreased, we’ve continued to push forward in community support and peaceful positivity. New Pathways to Discover and Create at Gorgeous Northern Colorado Course

Thanks to some incredible volunteers, the amazingly fun and gorgeous disc golf course at Sundance Trail Guest Ranch near Red Feather Lakes, CO has been expanded to 28 holes. As if it weren't beautiful enough, now the western side has been increased by seven new baskets that work into two new loops, affording all disc golfers even more amazing views. It is a pay-to-play course for $5 per day at the drop box near the big map near the parking lot. Contact the ranch for food and lodging anytime there is not a tournament happening at www.sundancetrail.com

There are three PeaceJames Co disc golf tournaments at Sundance this year with the Solstice Soirée selling out in an hour and half. Regular registration opens Tuesday, May 24 for Inside The Chains +WGE Powered by Innova is an official Women's Global Event and a PDGA sanctioned B-tier for professionals and C-tier for amateurs. In case that tournament fills up there is another chance, the very first ever Autumn Chill which is also a PDGA B-Tier October 1-2, 2022. Because of the two new separate loops it is very easy to skip one or the other or even both loops. The new holes make the course very modular for different kinds of events and add a ton of new mountain disc golf fun.

Here is the new holes section of a new map for Solstice Soirée Powered by Innova. As you can see it adjusts the old front nine, so that old hole 7 on top of the rocks is now 14. The old course then continues on from there without any change, at least for the Solstice Soirée. Thinking about skipping old hole 17/ new hole 24 because even though it is a signature hole, it is always a huge backup for events. Instead I would play 24's tee to 25's basket with a mando to keep discs up the hill from 23. Hole 1 has not changed, but here is the new hole 2. Actually all holes are new except hole 1 because of redesign or just renumbered. So I will just use the hole numbers and you the reader should know that I'm talking about the new design, unless otherwise stated as I will reference.

New tee 3 is the same location as old tee 2, but now plays uphill to the left. The basket is amongst the rocks just to the left of the directional arrow in this picture.

Now is where the brand new stuff comes into play. Holes 6 through 8 are the first of the two new loops.

Here is the Rec tee for hole 8. Plays extremely uphill with the basket on top in the rocks straight ahead. The Rec tees include the Intermediate, Recreational, Beginner and Junior divisions.

Here is hole 8 l ooking back down the fairway. The Rec tee is in the center and the Pro tee is to the left near the clearing/light area. You really want to approach this hole from the right side, the middle to left of this photo.

Looking the other way at hole 8's new 'green'. You really want to approach this hole from the right side, not coming from this way on the left. Not impossible, but certainly more tough. This hole is a par 4 from both Pro and Rec tees.

Hole 9 is up at the top of the hill. Follow the path and signs to old tee 5.

New hole 9 is the exact same as old hole 5. It's a cool hyzer though the trees, over a valley. It was aced in the 2021 Solstice Soirée.

Hole 10 is almost the same as old hole 6, but the basket is moved downhill a little.

PRO TIP: to get the Rec tee 13 walk down hole 10's fairway a bit then cut back at an angle.

After hole 10 you walk down the path a bit to the south, like going to old hole 7. But now you are met with a couple signs, hole 11 Pro tee to the left and Hole 11 Rec tee to the right. Be prepared to have a new favorite hole in Colorado.

Here is looking down the flight line of your new favorite hole in Colorado, the Pro tee of hole 11 at Sundance Trail Guest Ranch. It is 510' ft par 4 with OB the whole way down the left side.

Or if you prefer to play from the Rec tees, here is your new favorite view from the Rec tee of hole 11 at Sundance Trail Guest Ranch. This is a 360' par 4 downhill with OB the whole way on the left until the green. Again as the map was created for the PeaceJames Co disc golf tournaments at Sundance, the Pro tees include all advanced divisions and the Rec tees include all Intermediate, Recreational, Beginner and Junior divisions. The best part about disc golf is that you can play from wherever you want when playing a casual round, maybe even both Pro and Rec tees in the same round to see which is best for you.

After hopefully grabbing a birdie on your new favorite hole, you walk downhill the marked path to hole 12 which also has Rec and Pro tees. The path to the Rec tee is the first exit on the left in this picture and the pro is downhill at the end of the path.

You didn't plan on it but you will have yet another favorite hole in Colorado. This is hole 13 Pro tee, 250' par 3 severe uphill angle. The Rec tee is straight ahead about 125' with orange markings.

PRO TIP: to get to the hole 13 Rec tee, follow hole 10's fairway to the right, up the hill a bit and then cut back at an angle.

Here is the hole 13 'green'. There is a backstop so you should definitely go for it if you can confidently see the basket on your approach. It is gorgeous up here so do remember to save time for a couple pictures. But be courteous if there are groups waiting behind you.

After you play hole 13 follow the marked path downhill to the south, which leads you right to hole 14, which is old hole 7. There will be a water jug waiting for you at the tee box.

Three 2-Day Disc Golf Tournaments in 2022 at Sundance Trail Guest Ranch

1st Autumn Chill in October added to June Solstice Soirée and August Inside The Chains PDGA Events

Get ready for three weekends of frisbee fun and camaraderie in the gorgeous northern Colorado mountains in 2022. Starting with the Solstice Soirée Powered by Innova PDGA B-Tier celebrating the summer solstice June 25-26, next is Inside The Chains + WGE Powered by Innova PDGA C-Tier for amateurs and B-Tier for Pros August 6-7, both are Women’s Global Events and celebrate National Disc Golf Day, then the season finishes off with a brand new event you can be one of the first to be a part of, Autumn Chill PDGA B-Tier October 1-2, 2022. Still working on title sponsorship for that one.

All three tournaments will be a literal shotgun-start format to maximize the camaraderie and fun of our sport, as well as everyone’s time being about 2 hours away from Denver. All three events will provide a ranch style dinner included with your entry fee and will also have on-site camping and Bed & Breakfast Lodging, lunch both days, and breakfast Sunday morning available through the D.G. Scene registration page. Mini Disc Golf, Putting Competition, Accuracy Challenge and a Glow Round will be happening at all three events as well, depending on demand, with half of the entry fees of the extra fun events being donated to charity.

Based on input from last few events, a new map has been created with updated pars for Pro and Rec tees for the standard 21 hole layout. The par 67 Pro tee grouping includes all advanced divisions in addition to all pro divisions. The par 72 Rec tee grouping will include all Intermediate, Recreational, Beginner and Junior divisions. Considering making hole 1 a little longer depending on what winter bought. As per WGE rules all 23 women’s divisions are offered for Inside the Chains Powered by Innova. Divisions may be consolidated closer to the event with permission from all players involved. Thinking about creating a special rotating 9-hole Junior course depending on need. If there is enough demand, the Juniors would only play 18 holes per day, twice around their special course.

Because there are so many options and choices, here are the registration details including all costs to help you to plan. All food, camping and B&B Lodging for tournament weekends are only through DG tournament registration and will be managed by the TD. Feel free to contact Sundance Trail Guest Ranch anytime outside of tournament weekends for food and lodging and maybe a horseback ride.

There are three tiers of early registration for all three events. All Women and Junior divisions get a week of early registration before everyone else, so they can get in and play if they want. The following week is early registration for B&B lodging at a discounted rate and also tournament help early registration at a discounted rate in exchange for an hour or so of work before and after each round. Please contact the TD if interested in helping for a discounted entry fee at matt@peacejames.co. The last week of early registration is for Hole Sponsors at $100 and Tournament Sponsors at multiple tiers from $25 to $250.

Here are the registration dates to put into your calendars for all three 2022 tournaments.

Take advantage of the on-site camping and B&B lodging including the lodging early registration special deal. The Bed and Breakfast lodging is in either a room in the main lodge or a shared cabin. All camping, lodging and food for the tournament weekends are managed through the Disc Golf Scene registration page. These three events are the only time Sundance will let disc golfers camp on-site. As always Sundance will be selling beer after our rounds both days, the menu is on the website. Feel free to contact Sundance to book a room or cabin to practice for these tournaments and even take a horseback ride if you want.

Cautionary Cutting Creates Opportunity

Sundance Trail DG Survived Biggest Fire in CO History

2020 was a heck of a year. Not only a pandemic that's killed millions of people but Colorado set new records we really didn't want to record. Draught and years of beetle kill has produced a lot of dry fuel in northern Colorado and it burned over 200,000 acres last year and got really close to the Sundance Trail Guest Ranch near Red Feather Lakes. So close in fact that they had to get into emergency mode a few times and drastically cut down some of their trees. Thankfully the ranch owners son works for the U.S. Forest Service so he knows exactly how to manage their forest around the ranch.

As with any change it is indeed hard to get through and is a process for most people. But most of the time change is a good thing and I firmly believe that the ranch is still absolutely gorgeous and in fact has created even more opportunities and foundation for growth.

Overall there wasn't too much taken away from the previous disc golf course. But in fact many more opportunities and throws are now available that weren't before the fire. Indeed there is a lot of work to be done in creating new pin placements and maybe even different tees for pros and amateurs. But the forest being thinned out was a good thing in my opinion and I see nothing but growth and opportunity in the cuttings. In fact because of the blizzard we just had they got multiple feet of snow which enables burn days. So we'll be working to get rid of some of the piles of the cut down wood while we can with snow around.

As you can see in the next few pictures the course is still very challenging and does still have a bunch of tight forest tunnels. The cool part is that now instead of having to go through only one or two tunnels, there are more opportunities to choose from to get to the basket. I'll be posting more as I go up and help with burn days and prepare for the tournament this spring. My goal is to post a bunch of new pictures so you can all see the Colorado beauty I see with the new forest conditions.

2021 Sets Stage for New Anticipation

Wow what a year that was. The above map is a course that was incredibly awesome and exciting with lots of elevation changes on 15 of 18 holes that had me smiling for many months. I was literally gitty to share it with everyone because you could really watch them fly almost every hole! Well, that tournament had to be cancelled 8 days before the event because of new property ownership. Thought I'd learned most lessons in running a tournament but ran into a new wall that I couldn't get around. Especially within a week still in the middle of state, county and local virus restrictions and closures. Nevertheless the past is the past and I'd like to look forward with new anticipation and enthusiasm. I'm really hoping that we continue on the upward trend for covid cases as folks get vaccinated and we can gather again this summer.

I've been crossing my fingers for 2021 for a while now. At least since I sanctioned the Solstice Soirée in December 2020. It's such a fun event, it really helps me get a smile on my face to think of all the joy everyone has at such a gorgeous place. In fact I recently finished the logo and ordered the custom stamped discs. Still some to be determined but as with 2019 there will be on-site camping and bed & breakfast lodging in addition to extra fun events with half of the entry fees being donated to charity; Putting Competition, Accuracy Challenge, 9-Hole Mini Disc Golf, Glow Round.

I'm also running the Shades of Gray MASTERS again as a PDGA sanctioned B-Tier on September 25-26, 2021. Location announcement hopefully coming soon after confirmation. Everyone in the masters event is over 40 so a lot comes into consideration in those specific events. I'm also planning on adding some more PJC tournaments in 2022 which of course those projects need to be started this year in advance. It takes a lot of work to produce an incredible weekend of fun for all kinds of people. But I get just as much fun out it as I do playing. Here's a virtual high-five to a great 2021 and beyond!

CDSA Focus Changing To Education & Preservation

Here is the original text from the Colorado Disc Sports Association Blog post on Feb 1, 2019. I wanted to make sure everyone understands that this change is for the better and nothing to worry about.

Seems like the 2018-2019 disc golf off season has been an incredibly turbulent with lots of changes and rearrangements. Tons of players and companies are finding refuge under different roofs, including some of the top players is the world. Even locally here in Colorado there seems to be a lot more companies running disc golf tournaments. Well, there must be something in the air as the CDSA is going through some changes as well.

The CDSA website homepage explains our status and future goals, but in general we are going to move our focus to an education and preservation organization with a long term goal of a Colorado Frisbee Hall of Fame or Frisbee History Museum or both. Therefor all tournaments previously run by the CDSA will now be run by a new company started by our president, PeaceJames CO. Nothing to worry about here. Just a new name for events run by the same person as before with same priorities of fun and camaraderie while growing the sport. #CDSA #ColoradoDisc #ColoradoDiscGolf #SolsticeSoiree #PeaceJamesCO

Circulating Color Celebrating Compassion

What started as just an idea a few years ago has finally become a reality. Founded in 2018 as a platform for running disc golf events, sharing and spreading meaningful media, enjoying the Colorado Mountains and selling peaceful merchandise. I see this company as just a blank canvas right now with a broad and wide open future. Think of it as more of a brand than an active business at this point.
